Rep. Burlison Issues Statement on Chiefs' Move to Kansas

December 22, 2025

Washington, D.C. — Today, Rep. Eric Burlison issued the following statement regarding the Kansas City Chiefs' decision to relocate operations to Kansas:

"The Kansas City Chiefs have built a proud and lasting legacy in Missouri, anchored by Arrowhead Stadium and generations of loyal fans.

This is a sad day for Missouri and for free-market capitalism.

Cronyism has won the day. It should be illegal to tax citizens and use their money to subsidize privately-owned businesses. NFL owners use leverage aggressively, and the reality is that Kansans will now be forced to foot the bill for a stadium that benefits a multibillion-dollar franchise.

In the process, many Missouri-based fans are being taken for granted. It is also worth noting that Missouri’s largest cities continue to dwindle under long-standing Democratic control and have repeatedly lost major professional sports franchises.

That record deserves serious reflection.

The way forward for Missouri is simple: keep taxes low for all, cut regulations, grow the economy and population—and then the teams will come knocking."
