Burlison Statement on Indictment of Former FBI Director James Comey
Washington, D.C. — Former FBI Director James Comey was indicted by a federal grand jury on two counts: making false statements within the jurisdiction of the legislative branch and obstruction of a congressional proceeding.
The indictment alleges that Comey obstructed a congressional investigation into the disclosure of sensitive information, in violation of 18 U.S.C. § 1505. It further alleges that Comey made a false statement when he testified that he did not authorize someone at the FBI to serve as an anonymous source—an assertion the indictment states was untrue.
Comey is expected to surrender on Friday, September 26, with an arraignment scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on October 9 in Courtroom 600 of the U.S. District Court in Alexandria, before Judge Michael S. Nachmanoff.
In response, Rep. Eric Burlison (MO-07) issued the following statement:
“James Comey disgraced his office by trying to sabotage a duly elected president. He betrayed his oath and the country he swore to serve. His indictment is proof the deep state is finally being dragged into the light. As he said himself, no one is above the law.”
